AI-Generated Campaign Videos Flood Bangladesh’s Pre-Election Social Media: Report

AI Dominates Pre-Election Campaigns in Bangladesh: Report

Artificial Intelligence is becoming a powerful player in Bangladesh's political arena ahead of the 2026 general election. A Recent Report by digital research outlet Dismislab reveals that AI-generated campaign content is flooding platforms like Facebook and TikTok, reshaping how political messaging reaches the public.

Between June 18 and June 28, researchers analyzed 70 AI-generated campaign videos, which collectively racked up over 23 million views and more than one million interactions. On average, each video gathered around 328,000 views and 17,000 reactions, signaling a major shift in digital influence tactics.

Many of the videos were created using Google's Veo 3, a powerful text-to-video tool that brings fictional characters to life. These synthetic personas – including rickshaw pullers, fruit vendors, middle-class professionals, and religious leaders – are depicted voicing strong political opinions or support for various parties.

While the trend appears to have been spearheaded by supporters of the Islamist party Jamaat-e-Islami, it has since spread to backers of rival parties like the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and the newly emerged Nationalist Citizen Party (NCP).

One concerning element highlighted by the report is the lack of AI content labeling. Despite platform policies requiring transparency, many of these synthetic videos are published without disclosing their artificial origin, potentially misleading audiences.

The rise of deepfake-style campaign content presents both technological and ethical challenges as Bangladesh moves closer to its national election. As AI tools become more accessible, the line between real and synthetic narratives continues to blur—raising urgent questions about digital literacy, platform regulation, and election integrity.
