Surrey Smash 126-Year Record with Mammoth 820-9 County Total

820-9: Surrey Break 126-Year-Old Club Record at The Oval

Surrey County Cricket Club made history on Monday by posting their highest-ever total in a County Championship match, breaking a 126-year-old club record. Declaring at 820-9 against Durham on Day 2 at The Oval in London, Surrey surpassed their previous best of 811, set back in 1899 against Somerset – also at their iconic home ground.

The historic innings was powered by an extraordinary collective performance. Dom Sibley led the charge with a commanding 305, while Dan Lawrence added 178, Will Jacks contributed 119, and Sam Curran struck 108 – all four delivering triple-figure scores to cement their names in the club’s record books.

This batting onslaught helped Surrey write a new chapter in their long cricketing legacy. Their new record of 820-9 declared now stands as the fourth-highest total ever recorded in county cricket history. The overall record is still held by Yorkshire, who scored 887 against Warwickshire in 1896.

Surrey's performance also underscores the impact of modern training, sports analytics, and evolving strategies in cricket. As teams adapt to a data-driven approach, traditional records are being rewritten more frequently.

With strong performances from multiple England internationals, Surrey’s dominance signals their continued ambition for County Championship success – and perhaps even greater records in the future.
